Have a safe and happy holiday

Today is reportedly the busiest travel day of the year. While there's some question as to that claim's veracity, we know that there will be a lot of folks on the road trying to get somewhere before Thanksgiving on Thursday.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office and other local law enforcement officers in our corner of Nevada will be keeping an eye out for reckless and speeding drivers, and that's a good thing.

But the real cop who's going help keep all those travelers, and all of us who are using the roads this holiday, safe is the one in our heads.

The one that tells us to be careful, to watch out for the other driver, to look both ways crossing the street.

Sometimes that little voice gets drowned out by the pressures of travel, preparation for the big meal, battles for deals at the store.

We know that there will be distractions galore this holiday season, but that's when it's most important to listen to that little voice that warns us to take a moment and think about what we're doing.

Let's all work to make this the safest travel day of the year by watching our own actions and for those of others.

Here's wishing everyone a safe and pleasant holiday.
