Hiring elves for holidays

The elves have come early to Carson Valley this year.

Hire an Elf is the brain child of local marketing business owner Nikka Harvey and her eight-year-old entrepreneurial-minded daughter, Anya, a third-grader at Minden Elementary School.

Together, the Carson Valley residents created and designed everything from the logo to the menu of services that adorn their website at

"My daughter wanted to create a business to help with Christmas money so she could buy her own family presents this year," said Harvey. "So within minutes, we came up with the name, grabbed the domain and created Twitter and Facebook accounts. It will be good for her to see exactly what goes into owning a business and making her own money. We're both excited for the reservations to come in."

Hire an Elf can assist with everything from shopping, giftwrapping, party planning, card writing and goodie packaging, among other holiday chores.

"When you feel tired from tedious holiday activities, just call on the elves and they will come to the rescue," Harvey said.
