Happy 237th Birthday Marine Corps

Marines observed the 237th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps in Minden on Friday, a day before the actual date.About three-dozen Marines, spouses of Marines and even a young daughter of a Marine attended the annual ceremony at the Douglas County Judicial & Law Enforcement Building.Organized by Undersheriff Paul Howell and Alternative Sentencing Chief Mike Beam, the Marines also observed the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Guadalcanal.Marine Dominic Tanzi was a veteran of the battle that saw nearly 1,000 Marine casualties. He served from 1939 to 1945, and was the oldest Marine present on Friday.He cut the birthday cake, which was served to him by the youngest Marine present, Deputy Brian Wisneski.Minden Town Board member Steve Thaler read the message from the Marine Corps commandant.
