The R-C Morning Report

There's snow on the ground in the western Carson Valley and chain controls in the mountains. Chains or snow tires are required over Kingsbury and Spooner this morning and around Lake Tahoe. Chains or four-wheel drive are required to get over the passes, and there's a big chain control checkpoint on westbound Interstate 80.

A lake effect snow watch remains in effect from this afternoon through Saturday morning south of Carson City and into Douglas County. Snow of up to 8 inches could fall in very narrow bands downwind of Lake Tahoe.

Even without the snow watch, we had precipitation last night and it dropped below freezing, so roads could be pretty slick out there. Be careful going into work this morning.

There's an 80 percent chance of snow showers after 10 a.m. today with the high hitting a whopping 39 degrees. The wind will be out of the west at 10 mph with total daytime snow accumulation of 1-2 inches possible.
