Carson Valley Community Theatre is bringing back the nostalgia of radio entertainment with its production of “Radio Memories II: The Fabulous Forties.”The performance will re-create an evening of prime time programming, set during World War II, with the performers gathering at KVCT radio station in Minden to present the evening’s entertainment with such shows as “The Bickersons,” “Fibber McGee & Molly,” “The Shadow” and other shows from that era. “What I find intriguing is they force you to use your imagination when listening to them,” creator and actor Justin Clouser said. “It becomes a very personal experience to everyone listening to the show. You become engaged in the show much more than watching television.”The Jinglettes, CVCT’s own version of the Andrews Sisters, will sing vintage commercials for Halo Shampoo, Rinso Laundry Detergent, buy war bonds and rationing in between shows. “For me, it’s living history because we’re doing real commercials from that time in history,” actor John Fisher said. “I had to explain what a radio show was to my kids.”Clouser created the first Radio Memories show, set in pre-World War II era, last year from his collection of 7,000 radio shows on cassette and CD.“We had older people who remembered the shows when they were children,” he said. “It made us feel like we had done a good job.”For Ann Delahay, actor and singer, the biggest challenge of doing a radio show is making your voice sound different for each character.“The biggest challenge is trying to get different personalities with each role, and different voices so you sound different,” she said. “We don’t have to memorize a script, but you have to do everything vocally.”The show will be presented at the Carson Valley Inn on Nov. 16-18. Dinner and show packages on Nov. 16 and 17 are $30. Dinner is 5 to 6:30 p.m. with the show at 7 p.m. A 1 p.m. show-only matinee Nov. 17 costs $15.
