NV Energy troublemen have restored power to at least a portion 1,700 customers affected by a power outage that began at 1:30 p.m.
The outage extended south along Highway 88 into Alpine County to Woodfords.
Spokesman Karl Walquist said power company workers have been switching power sources to restore electricity.
High winds are suspected to be the culprit in the outage. which was first reported around 1:30 p.m.
Winds of up to 52 mph were recorded in Carson Valley on Thursday morning.
Strong winds roared through the Valley on Thursday as a storm was expected to drop snow in the Sierra and Northeast California tonight through the region.
A lake effect snow watch has been issued, with snow bands possible on the east side of Lake Tahoe and in the Carson Range.
Showers are expected to develop near and south of Carson City into Douglas County by Friday evening, with possibilities oif up to 8 inches possible. Heavy snow could be localized to bands 2-3 miles wide, and could create hazardous travel conditions with slick roads and reduced visibility.
