Shirley, 90, of Jolon, Calif. lost her battle with pneumonia on Oct. 1, 2012. She was married to Fred John Merritt Jr. and resided most of her life in Jolon. At the age of 80, she moved to Gardnerville to be by her oldest daughter. She became acquainted with many friends in the Gardnerville area and looked forward to her card club every Thursday. Every Wednesday, she loved to serve at the Senior Citizens luncheon. She relocated back to Salinas as the age of 88 to live on her youngest daughters ranch. She loved gardening, hunting, fishing and cards. In fact, she got her last deer at the age of 80!
Shirley leaves behind 3 daughters, Jeanette Virginia Merritt-Robison of Gardnerville, Elaine Elizabeth Merrit-Aikins of Las Vegas and Katherine Lee Merritt-Silva of Salinas. Also 9 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and a brother, David Plaskett of Madera, Calif. She will be at rest at the St. Lukes Episcopal Church cemetery with her husband and two infant twin daughters. A celebration of her life will be held Nov. 3, 2012 at St. Lukes in Jolon, Calif. at 1 p.m.
