Methodist women ready for the holidays

For more than 30 years the Carson Valley United Methodist Women have held an annual Christmas Craft Faire to support women and children in the community.

This year's event is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 3 in the church's fellowship hall.

"We started when we had the old church, and we kept it up. This is our one and only fundraiser," chairwoman Carol Coleman said. "Our mission is to help other women and children by having a fundraiser, and all the money goes to different places and organizations in the community."

Hand-crafted items for both decorating and gift giving will be for sale. Jewelry, plant bulbs and gently-used treasures are also available.

"There are quite a few crafty ladies who make quilts and runners," Coleman said. "People get good, quality items for a reasonable price."

The dessert table will offer an array of baked items including the popular pecan cinnamon rolls.

"It includes all kinds of baked items, homemade jams, candies, lots of breads and pies," Coleman said. "Anything anyone wants to make. I'm planning to make a couple of peach pies myself."

Drawings begin at 2:30 p.m. for silent auction gifts and raffle prizes.

A lasagna lunch will be served 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., including garlic bread, salad, coffee and tea.

Tickets for the lunch are $5 for adults or $2 for children under 10.

The women raise between $5,000 and $7,000 each year to benefit the Family Support Council, the food closet, Abbey Crossing, City of Refuge and others.

"The community is so used to us having this fundraiser that ours is one of the first ones they think of for Christmas and holiday items," Coleman said. "We've been doing it so long they look forward to it. It's a fun thing."

Carson Valley United Methodist Church is located at 1375 Centerville Lane in Gardnerville.
