The meeting held at the high school auditorium last Saturday for the organization of a Farm Bureau in this county, was largely attended by representative farmers from all parts of the county and resulted in much interest being taken in the work as outlined by Mr. Cliton of Washington, D.C. who is connected with the states relation service. Committees were appointed and the bureau given a good start in an important work.

The list of registered voters of Douglas County prepared for publication this week by H.R. Jepson, registrar, show a total of 883. Of this number 638 are registered as Republicans and 211 as Democrats. Thirty-four of this total registered as non-partisan or refused to state their party affiliation. The list reveals that 338 of the voters are females and 545 are males. Registration by precincts give Centerville 142, East Fork 380, Genoa 140 and Minden 221.

Douglas, Alpine, ad Mono counties, each of which adjoins the other two, form a small Republican island in the midst of a vast Democratic sea. Douglas is the only Republican county in Nevada, and Alpine and Mono are the only Republican counties in Northern California. Forming the shoreline of the island is Mono. But it looks as if Mono, which has only 52 more Republicans than Democrats out of a total registration of 1,750, seems to be on the verge of sinking beneath the waters.

The theme of the 123rd birthday of the Silver State is "Nevada's Tribute to the Arts," and grand marshal of the parade is Louise Curran, long-time supporter of the arts, of Virginia City. According to Nevada Day chairman Mike Shaughnessy, the celebration will take place over three days. The official opening event is the annual 1864 Ball Friday night in the crown Therese Ballroom at the Ormsby House. The parade begins at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Douglas High School Principal Charlie Condron resigned Monday afternoon due to a family health matter. Condron had no comment, but Douglas County Superintendent John Soderman verified Condron's resignation, saying he wasn't surprised. "I've known about this possibility for some weeks," Soderman said. "(Condron) indicated to me he was looking at this, and talked to me some time ago."
