Douglas High sophomore Koko Terada had a very strong second showing at the state tournament this week, finishing third overall and putting up the second-best score of the tournament for a Northern Nevada golfer.
Green Valley's Alex Kaui shot a two-day total of 138, including a four-under par 68 on the second day to claim the state title at Wildcreek Golf Course in Sparks.
Spanish Springs won the team state title with a combined 686 score, finishing 10 strokes ahead of runner-up McQueen. Coronado was third, Green Valley was fourth and Arbor View came in fifth.
Spanish Springs' Katrina Prendergast shot a 76 on both days to take second with a 152.
Terada had a solid 79 on the first day, but came up with the second-best score of the second day at 75. Her two-day 154 was two strokes ahead of Cornonado's Natalie Yamamoto and Basic's Jamie Donizio.
Kaui graduates after this year, but Prednergast, Terada and Yamamoto will all be moving on to their junior years, making for a close race heading into next year's state tournament.
Douglas junior Molly Jordan finished 28th in the state tournament with a combined score of 187. Douglas returns a bulk of its varsity roster next season, making the Tigers an early top contender for both the Sierra League and regional titles.
