Last Friday witnessed the departure of the third quota of Douglas county boys to American Lake, Washington and a big crowd was at the depot to bid the boys farewell. Short exercises were held in front of the Minden court house before train-time.

A number of friends of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Neddenriep surprised them Tuesday evening, it being their fifth wedding anniversary. It was also the birthday anniversaries of Mrs. Henry Dreyer, Miss Vernita Hellwinkel and Fred Scheele, so a joint celebration was held.

The East Fork Swimming Pool's first season was a highly successful one, the board of directors announced this week. In the slightly more than two months that the new pool was open, 4,440 persons used the pool facilities, for an average attendance of 104 per day.

The school district got an offer it couldn't refuse this week - a deal that, if it consummated, could save one of the county's historical landmarks, the old Douglas High School. Carson Valley Historical Society members, whose museum in Genoa is bulging at the seams, are interested in expanding. They believe the district's 71-year-old masonry building on Gardnerville's Main Street is just the place to do it. The structure served as the county high school until 1958 but was abandoned in the late 70's.

More than 25 Carson Valley representatives - county staffers, outdoor enthusiasts, land management agents and private citizens - put their collective heads together to map out future recreational trails. They attended the first Douglas County Comprehensive Trails Workshop held Saturday at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School in the Gardnerville Ranchos.
