South Lake man tells police he set trailer on fire with roommate inside

A South Lake Tahoe man told police that he started a fire in his trailer because he was distraught over family matters and matters concerning the owner.

Eric Almdale is being held on $1.05 million bail after he was arrested for aggravated arson and burglary.

At about 11:18 p.m. Thursday, police and firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire at the trailer park located at 885 James Ave. in South Lake Tahoe. As firefighters began to extinguish flames, police officers assisted with the evacuation of the neighboring trailers.

Police officers questioned resident Geraldine McClure during the initial response. She said she was awakened by heavy smoke, and was able to get out before the fire spread to the front door. McClure said at the time that she was unaware if her roommate, Almdale, was still inside.

Once the fire was out, South Lake Tahoe Fire Department determined no one else was inside of the trailer.

Shortly thereafter, South Lake Tahoe 911 dispatch center received a phone call from Almdale advising that he wanted to turn himself in for the fire in the trailer park. Almdale admitted to police officers that he intentionally started the fire in the trailer
