Back by popular demand - DAWG'S Mutt Poker Walk - on Saturday is a two-mile leisurely walk around Gardnerville with your best friend that will begin at 10 a.m. It will be held at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center in Gardnerville.
So mark your calendar and register now at www.dawgrescue.com to join in the fun with your four- and two-legged BFFs, win fantastic prizes, and best of all, help support homeless dogs and cats of Douglas County.
Live out of the area? Not available on Saturday? You can still help the pets and win prizes! How? Register for the walk and encourage sponsors (friends, family, co-workers, businesses you frequent ...) to donate in your name. Or sponsor one or more of the shelter pets registered by DAWG members. There's a grand prize for the registrant bringing in the most sponsor money and sponsors who donate $100 or more will be in a drawing for another grand prize. It's a "win-win" opportunity for everyone!
There will be vendors, music, food and entertainment throughout the day. And from 9 a.m. to noon there will be two "low-cost" pet clinics open to the public.
Microchips sponsored by DAWG with Dr. Linda Miner, and
Vaccinations sponsored by Quail Ridge Animal Hospital with Dr. Lesli Hewitt.
You do not need to be registered for the WALK to take advantage of the clinics and other festivities at the Museum.
And here are just a few of the prizes for this year's lucky winners:
Three cash prizes for best poker hand
Grand prize for most sponsorship money raised: one-week stay at the Oasis Timeshare Resort in Palm Springs, California (sleeps 4 persons), professional video/photo shoot of your dog, Doggie Goodie Basket, your dog honored as the "Top Dog" and face of the next DAWG Mutt Poker Walk (plus three more prize levels.)
Drawing for Sponsors donating $100 or more: 2-night stay at Harrahs/Harvey's Lake Tahoe with two theatre show tickets or a one-night stay for two at the Aliante Casino Hotel in Las Vegas with dinner at the Pasta Cucina
Sample raffle prize: One-night stay at Sorensen's Resort where your pets are also welcome.
DAWG's fundraising goal for this event is $25,000. This money is needed more than ever during these difficult economic times. More and more people are forced to surrender their pets, sometimes because they are about to become homeless themselves and sometimes because they can't afford to feed or provide needed medical care for their pets. This is such a heart-wrenching position for anyone to be in and DAWG feels compelled to assure those families that their pets will be well taken care of - both emotionally and medically - during the search for a new home.
Many of you are already familiar with DAWG's good work. You know that as an all-volunteer organization, all donations are used to benefit current homeless pets and to assist the community with programs such as low-cost spay/neuter, as we work toward the goal of all animal lovers: No more homeless pets.
Join us in our efforts. Help us save them. Go to www.dawgrescue.com now to register for the walk or to become a sponsor. If you have any questions, call DAWG at 267-7325.
See you at the walk.
