For the 13th year, the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra presents its annual autumn concert Friday.
The concert is 7 p.m. in the CVIC Hall. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. to give guests an opportunity to bid on the many silent auction items.
Under the direction of Elizabeth Eubanks, the orchestra will perform a variety of pieces from contemporary American composers.
"The music is going to be a style they haven't heard before," principle trumpet Bob Masters said. "It's music we've never performed before.
The 25-member orchestra will play "Three American Folk Hymns" by K. Lee Scott, "Old Ironsides, Champion of the Seas" and "Blunderbuss Battles: Adventure on the High Seas."
"They're all kind of newer pieces," Masters said. "We have a theme of ships."
The Carson Valley Pops is an all-volunteer, non-profit orchestra, and is supported by donations from Douglas County, concert patrons, local business donations, and program advertising.
"The nicest thing about Minden is the attendance we get. It's standing room only," Masters said. "As a musician it's always nice to have more people in the audience than in the orchestra."
Silent auction items include, designer sunglasses, gift certificates for Tahoe Ridge Winery, Carson Valley Inn, A Wildflower and others.
Proceeds from the auction go toward the purchase of new sheet music.
