Valley resident receives senior samaritan award

At the Sept. 6 commissioners meeting, Nora Weaver was awarded the Governor's Senior Samaritan Award.

"You are forever to be known from this day forward as one of our greats," County Commission Vice Chair Nancy McDermid read from Gov. Brian Sandoval's proclamation.

Senior Services Advisory Board Chair Bob Cook said Weaver has volunteered about 20,000 hours of her life over the last 24 years in a variety of services, from the Meals on Wheels program in Topaz Ranch Estates to bingo night at the senior center.

"She's the biggest George Strait fan I ever met," he said. "Thank you Nora for everything you do."

Douglas Couny Community Services Director Scott Morgan described Weaver as a, "gracious giver."

"Without volunteers, without people like Nora, we simply do not function," he said.
