Douglas County merchants had a slight increase in taxable sales during the first month of the new fiscal year, according to the Nevada Department of Taxation. Taxable sales in July were up .5 percent over July 2011. Merchants sold $52.75 million during the month.

Genoa shouldn't be the traffic disaster it usually is as crafters arrive to set up for Candy Dance. Usually the town gets a lot of motorcyclists from Street Vibrations on the Friday before Candy Dance, but not so much this year, since that event was last weekend.

We might see some thunderstorms today after 2 p.m. Otherwise the weather should be mostly sunny with a high temperature near 84 degrees. The showers should dissipate around 8 p.m. if they appear.
