The bills for the much disputed state fire fee will be arriving to property owners within a few days. The main thing to remember is that your bill must be paid within 30 days of the date on the bill, or there will be hefty penalties charged to you. Once you have paid the bill, you can file for a refund. To get the form for refund application and the instructions for completing it, go to www.firetaxprotest.org on your computer. Unfortunately, this bill is scheduled for coming years, but not a year apart until 2014. I have been told there will be a second one in January and a third in July of next year. We can hope that the courts will overrule this bill that was passed by the California State Legislature and signed by the governor without the citizens' knowledge or opportunity to give input.
Deer Hunters Barbecue
The 48th annual Antelope Valley Lions Club's Deer Hunters Barbecue will be on Oct. 6, 5 to 8 p.m. at the Community Center in Walker. The cost will be $12 for adults and $5 for children under 12. This meal is always to die for, with the deep pit barbecued meat, all the trimmings, and dessert. There will also be many really good raffle prizes, including a $1,000 Visa gift card. Start the fall season right with this delicious meal and fun get-together.
This and that
The monthly meeting for the creation of the local CERT (Citizens Emergency Response Team) will be tomorrow 6 p.m., at the Community Center in Walker. This is helping to teach local citizens to be able to assist in case of an emergency in our valley. Please come down and see if you can lean and help.
The next Coleville High School boys' football game will be this Saturday, 1 p.m. at the high school field against Smith Valley. So far this year, in five games, Coleville has outscored the opposition by a score of 244-14 and we hope they can keep on winning like that.
