Less than halfway into the 2012 season, the Douglas boys' soccer team has already surpassed its goal total for the entirety of 2011.
This was thanks to a 6-0 win over Manogue Wednesday afternoon as the Tigers bumped their season scoring total to 20 goals as a team (there were 16 last season).
"We looked good today," Douglas coach Vince Brown said. "We definitely seemed more relaxed when possessing the ball."
Douglas got a pair of early goals in the match and a penalty kick to the left post in the 36th minute from Jake Passas essentially sealed the game.
Passas finished the game with three goals, Jaden Mustacchio scored twice and Emilio Magana punched in the remaining goal.
"There were many contenders for man of the match," Brown said. "Emilio was superb in midfield, Jaden had a great game up front and Connor Holman was very influential in the first half.
"But, as he scored a hat trick, it would have to go to Jake Passas."
Holman and Musstacchio each had a pair of assists.
Defensively, Douglas got strong efforts out of Jacobi Smith, Koby Hinnant, Jake Downum among others and Jonathan Gomez posted the shutout in net.
Douglas improved to 4-5 overall on the year and 2-3 in Northern Division I play with the win. The Tigers travel to Damonte Ranch on Saturday.
