120 years ago

September 23, 1892

A well-armed man came out of the hills this week and had breakfast at Rodenbah's station, then bought grain which he said was for a donkey, which he had left in the hills. He claimed to be a prospector, but from the description of the man, it is possible that he was one of the gang of Evans and Sontag, the Collis train robbers.

95 years ago

September 21, 1917

Mrs. Bassman passes away. After a long and useful life Mrs. H Bassman passed from the vale of tears to eternal rest last Saturday. The end came peacefully at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Stodieck, where she had resided for the past number of years.

80 years ago

September 23, 1932

Construction on a new road from Double Springs flat, 14 miles south of Gardnerville to the Leviathan Mine in Alpine County started this week, Tieslau Bros., well known contractors having been engaged to build the new road. Highway equipment including a power shovel and trucks was moved to the project early in the week.

50 years ago

September 20, 1962

Douglas County should concentrate on attracting small industry rather than large industry, Carson Valley businessman Al Whear told the executive board of the Carson Valley Area Development Committee at its Monday meeting in Gardnerville. Whear, who is a member of the CVAD Industry and Retail Business Committee, said that big industry will not come here until there is adequate housing, including rental, to assure living quarters for employees.

Bring your pocketbook and your dancing shoes to Genoa this weekend - it's time for Candy Dance and the Candy Dance Art and Craft Fair. The fair, which began as a small event held in the Genoa Town Hall some years ago, now features 255 exhibitors, including 26 fine artists.

September 18, 2002

No one was injured when a parked Douglas County school bus rolled about 50 feet at Topaz Lodge, shearing off a gas pump and hitting an Oldsmobile belonging to a Douglas High School student.
