Classic rides show up at Gardnerville car wash

More than 70 classic cars showed up at Grand Prix Car Wash in south Gardnerville on Wednesday on their way north to the Reno Air Races.

The cars came from Southern California and Canada, and from some local car clubs as well, said Grand Prix owners Chuck and Jan Kriss, who provided the motorists with coffee and donuts.

"The camaraderie was great, and a good time was had by all," the couple said in a press release. "What is unique about this event is that all of these beautiful hot rods and show cars were driven hundreds of miles, whereas many show cars are trailered to events, and those cars are called 'Trailer Queens.' The reason they trailer them is that they don't want any road damage, or they are not dependable enough to make the trip. This group likes to enjoy their cars and drive them."

Because of the successful venue, the consensus from participants was clear:

"They want us to host this event annually," said Chuck and Jan Kriss.
