Planning Commissioners approved changes to The Ranch at Gardnerville, but not without a fight over the future of Zerolene Lane. The Como fire looks to be down for the count with containment expected by this evening. Better mapping reduced the size of the fire to 768 acres, which pretty much stayed in its original burn area since Sunday. It's 70 percent contained, but still smoldering with nearly 200 people working it. So far it cost $638,000 to extinguish.
I'm speaking before the Lions Club tonight at Sharkey's. Dinner's at 6 p.m. The trouble starts at 7 p.m.
The first frost warnings of the season are in effect for northeastern Nevada stretching all the way west to Humboldt County and south to Tonopah. The National Weather Service is forecasting temperatures near or below freezing tonight in the valleys. It's only a matter of time before we see similar warnings.
But there are no frosts in Carson Valley for the foreseeable future as high temperatures continue into the 80s and lows drop only to the 40s.
