Gardnerville man denies assault

A Gardnerville man denied charges of assault and stalking in District Court on Monday.

David Christopher Springer, 30, pleaded not guilty to several felony charges.

District Judge Michael Gibbons asked why Springer was being representated by Matt Ence and not one of the county's contracted attorneys.

Attorney Kris Brown said she prosecuted Springer in 2008 when he was convicted of child abuse, and attorney Derrick Lopez said he defended the victim in the case.

Springer said Tod Young defended him in 2008.

"I thought he did a good job for me in the last case," he said.
