120 years ago

September 16, 1892

Friday afternoon Chris Jonson's two daughters Miranda and Annie were driving to Genoa, when near the Dake place, the horse became frightened and began to run. The shafts fell down and the horse kicked them to slivers. The ladies were thrown out but not injured.

95 years ago

September 14, 1917

At a recent meeting of the Board of County Commissioners it was ordered that the county purchase from E.L. Beck of Silver Dyke mines, six steel Troy 5-ton dump wagons for the sum of $2,250 f.o.b. Reno. The Wagons arrived at Minden Wednesday and will be used for road work in connection with the tractor.

80 years ago

September 16, 1932

The Nevada Tax Commission culminated its hearing of tax cases in an executive session Saturday. Some applications for tax reductions were granted, some were denied and four cases of tax increase were passed by the commission.

50 years ago

September 13, 1962

The Douglas County High School Tigers open their 1962 football season this Friday evening in a non-conference tilt here against Fallon High School of the "AA" league. Douglas is an "A" school. Game time for the junior varsity contest will be 5:00 p.m., with the varsity contest scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.

September 17, 1987

The Record-Courier won seven awards for newspaper advertising excellence this week, including first place for its Carson Valley Almanac. Competing against weekly newspapers from California, Nevada and Arizona, the R-C took top honors for its work on the special section covering Carson Valley life. In that category, the judges also considered the new Carson City Almanac, another special section published by The Record-Courier for the first time this year.

The aim of today's Sept. 11 remembrance at Western Nevada Community College Douglas campus today is to honor the victims of the terrorist attacks and to not forget them, said Michelle Trusty-Murphy, a WNCC professor. "We need a formal way to have a little control in a chaotic world," she said.
