Como fire responsible for smoke plume over Pine Nuts

The Como fire burning out of control southeast of Dayton is sending a smoke plume above the Pine Nut Mountains.

Estimated at 800 acres, the fire is growing quickly due to gusty winds. More than 120 firefighters and five air tankers are battling the blaze, according to the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch. The fire is being fought by firefighters from the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Forest Service and the Nevada Division of Forestry.

While no structures were threatened as of the last update at 5:40 p.m., communications towers and powerlines in the area are endangered by the fire. …
