The Family Support Council of Douglas County is working diligently toward a community free of family violence. They provide shelter to those desiring a safe place when caught in an abusive situation. Education is the key to breaking the cycle of abuse that runs in families; and our FSC provides counseling, therapy, support, shelter, legal advocacy, and crisis intervention to those in this type of situation. As a 501(3) non-profit organization, they are fully dependent on grant funding, donations, fundraisers, and volunteers to provide these valuable services to those in need. Our current economic environment has had a tremendous effect on the FSC as well as many other nonprofit organizations that depend on donor dollars to fulfill their mission. How can you help? On Oct.13 W.I.S.E. (Women Inspiring Service and Education) will host the Rock ‘n’ Roundup fundraiser for the Family Support Council. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the FSC will present their Hero Awards to those that have made a difference in our community through service and/or education at the Rock ‘n’ Roundup which will be held at Carson Valley Inn. A barbecue dinner buffet will be served followed by dancing to music provided by Bootleggers Band. Local businesses have provided many wonderful items for silent auction as well as raffle prizes. There will also be a week at a condo on the oceanfront in Florida, a week at a Worldmark by Wyndham resort and a piece of diamond (the “rock” in Rock ‘n’ Roundup) jewelry for you to bid on during the live auction. George Alm will be engaging the audience with his special brand of humor while encouraging you to be as generous as you can be for this important organization. Why not get together with a few of your friends and/or family to bid on a vacation spot or perhaps you’d prefer the special piece of diamond jewelry. It promises to be an evening of fun, entertainment, and inspiration with delicious food along with music and dancing. Make your plans to attend. The cost is $40 each through Oct. 10. At the door, the price will be $50 per person.
