Isolated to widely scattered thunderstorms will continue to develop along the Sierra and over Western Nevada and range late this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters say activity will lift slowly north northeast into the early evening.
Strong gusty outflow winds up to 45 mph, with brief heavy rainfall, and deadly lightning are expected with these thunderstorms.
Wind gusts with the thunderstorms could reach 50-55 mph in the lower valleys. After 8 p.m., thunderstorms will begin to dissipate with the loss of afternoon heating, forecasters say.
Areas south of Highway 50 and west of Highway 95 will receive heavier rainfall amounts that could cause ponding of water on roadways.
