The 12U and 10U Carson Valley Hot Shots softball teams have finished their nine-week tournament circuit with winning records. The 12U team ended the season 40-10 and the 10U team posted a 40-7 record, making 2012 one of the organization's most successful seasons.
Nevada State titles are among the championship wins for both of the local travel teams.
The 10U HotShots softball team dominated the travel circuit, tallying nine championship wins in nine tournaments, and outscoring the competition nearly six to one. The HotShots final accolade came in the form of a first place title in the Silver division at the All-World Sports World Series in Sacramento.
Leading the HotShots offensively on the season with batting averages above .400 were Joie Maki (.520), Alyssa Smokey (.489), Maggie Usher (.471) and Jasmine McNinch (.457).
Pitchers Janae BlueHorse, Valerie BlueHorse, Jaileine Salciedo, Smokey and Deztiny Vaughan put up a combined ERA of 2.17, striking out 417 batters in 174 innings, and allowing only 58 hits in 47 games.
"It was an all-around successful season," said Coach Joey McNinch. "The team not only put up a winning record, they also gained a lot of strength as players, which is an asset to our local softball organization. Ten of the twelve players will move on to play in the U12 division in 2013, and they are well positioned to be successful at the next level."
The 12U HotShots grabbed five championship titles and two second-place finishes for the season, and will also graduate many players to the 14U division in 2013.
12U coach Eddie Doughty said, "Our season really started with off-season conditioning at Line Drive U in November 2011. The time dedicated to working and playing together as a team has paid off with delivery of a winning season. It is all possible because of the heart and determination of the team, and the support of our sponsors, volunteers and parents."
Conditioning clinics for 2013 begin this November at Line Drive U for area softball players between the ages of 9 and 14. The clinics offer young athletes the opportunity to develop and maintain fundamental skills during the winter months, in preparation for the recreation and tournament seasons.
The HotShots are the traveling teams of the Carson Valley Girls Softball Association. The CVGSA offers recreation softball for youth ages 4-18, and tournament softball for youth ages 8-14. Registration for the 2013 season begins in January, with the recreation season running April through May.
