Monday afternoon, Ule Brule, son of D. Brule accidentally shot himself with a rifle. He with other boys had been hunting at the head of James Canyon and stumbled over a rock when the gun was accidentally discharged, striking him in the fleshy part of the thigh.

Approximately three miles of asphalt remain to be laid on the sector between the foot of Lakeview hill and Franktown, in the reconstruction of the Reno-Carson highway on the Washoe Hill-Carson City unit, it was stated at Carson Wednesday. Excellent progress is now being made with the work, with a mile of pavement put down last Saturday, says the Appeal.

The Carson Valley Ridin' and Ropin' Club has announced that its July jackpot roping and barrel racing show drew a record number of cowboys and cowgirls for what was "unquestionably the largest jackpot roping ever staged in the state of Nevada."

All those lovely signs one sees in Douglas County, at the parks and a public buildings, are made by one man, Jim Moore, a park ranger. Jim Moore is in charge of Zephyr Cove Park, where he can be found on nice summer days cutting the grass, and on cold winter days dealing with the snow. He also designed the Topaz Ranch Estates Park and the landscaping at the Tahoe Service Center.

The newest option of Carson Valley shoppers opens in one week. The Wal-Mart SuperCenter is moving barely a mile from its Carson City locale across the county line into Douglas County and opens Aug. 14. In February 2001, Wal-Mart announced it would leave its location in Carson City and relocate to Douglas County.

Milos " Sharkey" Begovich, the renowned owner of a landmark Gardnerville casino that bears his name, died Friday morning at age 76. The exact cause of death was unknown at press time, but Sharkey was known to be battling cancer and had three operations, including a quadruple bypass, in 2001.
