Smiths celebrate 50th anniversary

Daryl and Margie Smith celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 21.

The Gardnerville couple was married in 1962 at St. Joseph the Worker Church in Canoga Park, Calif.

Daryl was raised in Hutchinson, Minn., and Margie is part of the fifth generation born in Los Angeles County, growing up mostly in Palmdale and El Monte, Calif.

Daryl and Margie met at Pierce College in San Fernando Valley. Daryl worked for Douglas Air Craft, then for Rocketdyne in Canoga Park, Calif., as an inspector for the space program for 35 years.

Margie received her teaching certification from UCLA working for a private preschool and elementary for 32 years as the director, as well as teaching the Early Childhood Program for Los Angeles United School District for 14 years.

They have three children Brenda, Bryan (Toke) and Bobby (Melanie). They also have five grandchildren; Michael, Garrett, Shayne, Dillon and Cole all from San Fernando Valley.

The Smiths moved to Carson Valley in 2007, living in Silver Ranch Estates. They celebrated their anniversary with their family in the Los Angeles area, and a dinner for two at the Sunset Restaurant in Malibu, Calif.
