Relay for Life dedicated to longtime volunteer

This year's Relay for Life is dedicated to the memory of Topaz Lake resident Linda Fields.

Fields died July 28 after years surviving the disease she fought by participating in Relay, friend Chris Beard said.

Fields was the reason the Topaz Cure-Aiders formed a fundraising team in 2006 as she underwent months of aggressive chemotherapy and still walked the course in the opening ceremony for 2006.

Relay for Life starts 2:30 p.m. Saturday, and teams to walk the course at Gardnerville's Lampe Park can sign up until the starting time.

Donations can be made online at or by mail to American Cancer Society, 691 Sierra Rose Drive, Suite A, Reno, NV, 89511.

Include it is for Douglas Relay in the memo line.

Relay for Life is free and open to the public to support the walkers.
