Search for missing Carson doctor continues

Inyo County officials are hoping someone hiking in the area saw Carson City physician Dr. Gary Dankworth in the John Muir Wilderness over the weekend.

The search for Dankworth, 60, entered its fourth day after he was reported overdue on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Inyo County Sheriff's Office, Dankworth failed to return to camp from a hike to summit Norman Clyde Peak above Big Pine on Saturday, and was due out the following morning.

Dankworth is described as an experienced backcountry hiker; he has brown/gray hair and moustache; he is wearing a light gray hat, tan long-sleeve shirt, light gray pants, red boots and is carrying a yellow day pack.

Assisting in the search are Inyo County Search and Rescue, San Diego Search and Rescue, Marin Search and Rescue, Tulare Search and Rescue, Fresno Search and Rescue, Sierra Madre Search and Rescue, Sequoia Kings National Park, Inyo National Forest, Montrose Search and Rescue, China Lake Mountain Rescue Group, and air support is provided by California Air National Guard out of Sacramento.

If anyone was hiking in the middle Palisades Glacier area or Norman Clyde Peak area and may have had contact with Dankworth, they are asked to contact the Inyo County Sheriff's Department at (760) 878-0383.
