Royal Francis Dudley completed his mission on earth June 20, 2012, at the age of 76. Royal was born June 7, 1936 in Rector, AR to Royal Francis and Pansy Marie (Wright) Dudley.
After growing up in League City, TX, Royal enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Okinawa. When he left the Marine Corps, he became a deep sea diver and underwater welder along the Gulf Coast. He then found his dream job when he went to work for NASA as a test subject suit technician, training the astronauts on the Apollo Missions. He was matched with Buzz Aldrin for the Apollo 11 landing on the moon.
A lover of the outdoors, he was passionate about both fly fishing and flying, his favorite plane being a Piper J3Club, "tail dragger". He was also a master storyteller, able to keep friends and family spell bound for hours. He moved his family to Nevada in 1971 and retired as a technician for Continental Telephone Company before moving back to Galveston County.
He was preceded in death by his father; his wife, Nancy Jane (Wright) Dudley; his daughter, Lina Lynn Dudley and his step-father, Royal Parr.
Left to celebrate his life are his wife, Joyce Ann (Streetman) Dudley; his mother, Pansy (Dudley) Parr; a son, Mark Royal Dudley and his wife, Beverly; a daughter, Kellie (Dudley) Modispacher and her husband, Lance; and a sister, Lina (Dudley) Sheffield and her husband, A.H. He is also celebrated by seven grandchildren, Angie, Ricky and Jenny Dudley of Reno, Nevada; Austin and Colton Dudley, Samantha Jo Merrill and Chelsea (Merrill) Huff of Minden, Nevada; two great-grandchildren, three step-sons and a host of nieces and nephews.
