Stricken backpacker rescued near McGee Creek

An ill 15-year-old backpacker was evacuated from a camp above Lake Crowley in Mono County on Wednesday.

A group of 10 backpackers from Oakland hiked up McGee Creek and camped below the Grass Lake trail junction on Tuesday. The next morning, after breaking camp, the subject became ill with severe abdominal pain and could not continue.

Seven The Mono County Sheriff Search and Rescue Team members hiked in 4.5 miles and located the subject. He was evacuated by wheeled litter to the McGee Creek trailhead where Mono County paramedics transported him to Mammoth Hospital for treatment.
