Beans and brews at the Wild Rose Inn

Tickets are on sale for Carson Valley Arts Council's "Beans, Brews, and Blues" 4 to 7 p.m. July 28 at the Wild Rose Inn in Genoa.

Proceeds go toward the arts council's $900,000 capital campaign to pay off the note on the Copeland Building.

"We are at $340,000 pledged," Executive Director Steve Farnsley said. "It will enable us to get government grants to do the renovations to complete the performing arts center."

"Beans" Sousa and Monique Haviland and the Out of Bounds Band will provide the musical entertainment, while area breweries and Tahoe Ridge Winery provide the libations.

Guests can also enter the "Wine Wall" raffle where winners get to blindly pick from a wall of various bottles.

"Our goal is to have 100 bottles of wine," Farnsley said. "It's sort of a grab bag approach."

Haviland plays a mix of pop, jazz, and blues. She was a a teenage pop star in Croatia, Bosnia, Yugoslavia and Slovenia. After moving to the United States, Haviland performed in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Denver, Portland and Hawaii.

In 2009 she released her CD "Illumination" and a greatest hits compilation of her European hits.

Guitarist Duane "Beans" Sousa is best known for his recording productions and album appearances. In 1999 he produced and co-wrote songs for Lacy J Dalton's "Wild Horse Crossing" as well as his own CD, "Into The Blue."

After completing the production of Dalton's "Wild Horse Crossing," Beans produced and wrote the solo effort "Into the Blue." This project consists of vocal selections, with each song written about and dedicated to different friends and associates of the artist including Walter Hyatt to whom the album is dedicated to. Sousa now lives among the Sierra Mountains near Lake Tahoe. As an avid trout fisherman, Beans is often found performing night clubs on the West Coast and making appearances at the Strawberry Music Festival and High Sierra Music Festival.

"It's an evening of music, entertainment and also we will have lots of good food," Farnsley said. "It's going to be a lot of fun."

Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the event.
