The Carson Valley is well represented for this year's District 1 All Star Tournament which kicked off Wednesday night in Carson City at Governor's field. The 11-year-old team got the first draw and faced off against Truckee in the opening round where they came away with a decisive 8-2 victory.
"This is a strong group of boys who have only been practicing together for the last 10 days but they have come together very nicely as a team", said Manager Troy Valenzuela. "We have solid pitching and tremendous defense which has a way of making things easier when you get to the plate.
Teegan Valenzuela led the way offensively with three hits, two RBIs, and three runs scored. Ethan Usher also put up two hits and had two RBIs and Jarret Rudd hit well in the leadoff spot contributing two hits in a game that saw Carson Valley score in every inning but the first.
Jarrett Rudd got the majority of the pitching duties as well as the victory as he came in for Eddie Cabrera in the first inning and pitched through the fourth coming up with four strikeouts and no earned runs. Rodina and Valenzuela combined to close out the pitching duties in the last two innings. Koby Dye, Dylan Wetzel, Cyrus Mendoza, Devon Johnson, Sean Dunkelman, and Nathan Beisner fill out the rest of the roster for the 11 year old team who will take on Reno American tonight back at Governors Field at 5:30 p.m.
