The Elements United U16 girls' soccer team placed first in the South Lake Tahoe Come Up For Air College Showcase Tournament playing in the silver division.
The Elements dug themselves a hole to start the tournament losing to the Vacaville Thunderbirds 1-0 in a match where they dominated possession but couldn't find the back of the net.
In their second match they started strong scoring an early goal against Reno's SBSC Patriots, but then lost momentum in the second half and had to hold to secure a 1-0 victory.
Their 1-1 record at the end of the day left them second in the bracket and meant that they had to either draw or win their next game to advance to the championship final.
Saving their best play for Sunday, the Elements third game of the tournament saw them come out quickly and never look back against the Livermore Fusion.
Scoring one goal in the first half and adding two more in the second while conceding only one goal to Livermore on a controversial free kick just outside the penalty box.
The win against Livermore set up a rematch against the unbeaten Vacaville Thunderbirds who had not given up a goal in any of their first three games.
The rematch would be similar to the first game of the tournament with the Elements dominating possession, but this time around they were able to find the net going up 2-0 at the half.
The second half proceeded as the first with the Elements putting constant pressure on Vacaville and a third goal seeming just a matter of time, but it never happened.
Instead, the Thunderbirds got back in the match with a debated goal late in the second half in which the ball ricocheted from side bar to side bar and then back out of the goal area never appearing to cross the goal line, however, the side referee adjudged the shot to be a goal and the game was back on. With the match now only a one goal difference, the Elements continued to play as they had through the entire match putting constant pressure on the Thunderbirds goal until the final whistle blew.
