Fourth of July celebrations


Chicken barbecue at the Genoa Volunteer Fire Department, noon to 6 p.m. Cost, $12. The Sierra Philharmonic League sponsors the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra on July 4 in the Mormon Station State Historic Park. Festivities begin at 1 p.m., concert at 4:15 p.m. Information, 782-2590.


Hometown Celebration Fourth of July 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in Minden Park. Bike decorating at 10:30 a.m. for the Patriotic Park parade at 11:30 a.m. The Carson Valley Pops Orchestra, conducted by Elizabeth Eubanks, presents their Independence Day concert 12:30 p.m. Food and drinks available for purchase. Gardnerville Ranchos

The seventh annual Glenwood Independence Day parade is 11:30 a.m. July 4 on Glenwood Drive in the Gardnerville Ranchos. Staging is at 11 a.m. Information,


The Star Spangled Fourth Lights on the Lake begins about 9:45 p.m. July 4 at Tahoe's South Shore. The fireworks are launched from offshore barges and can be seen from all corners of town. South Shore offers access to viewing areas via public transportation, paved bike trails, and nearby park and walk venues.

Carson City

Fireworks begin July 4 at dusk in Mills Park, at the corner of Roop Street and Highway 50. The celebration features a carnival, food and arts and crafts. Information, (775) 687-4680.


Celebrate the Fourth of July with the annual Kirkwood volunteer fireman's barbecue July 7. Benefiting the all-volunteer fire department in Kirkwood, the event includes a commemorative glass, beer and wine tasting and barbecue. The bike parade for kids of all ages is July 8. Meet at the tennis courts at 11 a.m. with your bike and helmet to decorate before the parade through the cone zone. Free ice cream after the parade. Virginia City

The annual Fourth of July spectacular parade begins noon July 4. Boardwalks are filled with face painters, historical figures, clowns and free give-a-ways for the kids.The Comstock Cowboys perform a free Second Amendment concert 6-9 p.m. in the Delta parking lot.
