During the Carson Valley Quilt Show "My Favorite Things" on June 15, show cochairman Cecile Brown announced that 41 ribbons and cash prizes were awarded to several quilt artists. More than half the awards were earned by Carson Valley Quilt Guild members.
Quilt show sponsors, FPA of Los Angeles, Calif., selected "Bird of Paradise" by Janet Williams of Carson City for the sponsor's award. The quilt chair award was presented to Nancy Ryan of Gardnerville for her, "Iris Field." Best of show was awarded to Sherry Reynolds of Laramie, Wyo., for her "Christmas All Around" quilt. Judge's choice ribbon went to Jan Soules of Elk Grove, Calif., for her quilt, "Circus, Circus," and the viewer's choice ribbon went to Susan Pharis of Lincoln, Calif., for her quilt, "Japanese Garden."
The show this year was well attended at Carson High School. Several quilters traveled to northern Nevada to attend the show from California, Arizona, and Texas. Some of the proceeds of this year's show will be used to provide scholarships for students attending Western Nevada College and to hire national speakers to teach quilting classes and lecture at future CVQG meetings.
C.J. Behling, textile designer, instructor, Northern California Quilt Council certified judge and quilter from Discovery Bay, Calif., was the judge for the 2012 CVQG show. She said this was one of the best shows she has ever judged.
