The motorcyclist killed Thursday evening on Highway 50 in Lyon County near mile marker 33 has been identified by the Washoe County Medical Examiner/Coroner's Office as 50-year-old David L. Donley of Fallon.
Donley had been traveling east on the two-lane highway on his black 2006 Harley-Davidson at approximately 9:27 p.m., when he allowed his motorcycle to depart the travel lane when it struck the adjacent guardrail on the right edge of the roadway. After striking the guardrail, his motorcycle deflected into the oncoming travel lane and stuck another section of guardrail on the opposing side of the road. The second contact ejected him from his motorcycle and he came to rest in the west bound travel lane while his motorcycle continued to travel several hundred feet more before losing momentum. The cycle eventually came to rest on the right paved shoulder on the same side of the highway.
Shortly after being ejected, Mr. Donley was struck by another westbound vehicle whose driver did not stop at the scene. As a result of the chain of events, Mr. Donley sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Trooper Kris Satterwhite of the Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating this accident.
