Carson Valley Quilt Guild show features 'My Favorite Things'

In addition to more than 200 quilts on display during the Carson Valley Quilt Guild show June 9 and 10, there will be a display of antique quilts and quilting furniture items in an exhibit titled, "Our Quilting Heritage."

Members of the Carson Valley Quilt Guild will be on hand at the exhibit to demonstrate the use of antique equipment and historical technology. Three demonstrations are planned for each day, and include quilting using a treadle machine, hand quilting in a hoop and crazy quilting.

The guild is offering $20,000 in prize money which is coming from show sponsor First Pacific Advisors of Los Angeles.

This prize money for the judged entries has attracted quilt entries from California, Texas, Kansas and Wyoming in addition to numerous entries from Northern Nevada.

The show is themed "My Favorite Things."

Pieces are as diverse as a mountain hike complete with a stream created from blue sequins, a favorite coffee shop, a snowy hill full of skiers, and abstract designs with colorful flowers and clusters of buttons.

Door prizes and themed raffle gift baskets will be offered, in addition to 19 vendors from Nevada, California, Idaho and Arizona.

Lunch will be available for purchase by Cafe Girasole of Gardnerville.

The show will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 9 and 10 at Carson High School, 1111 N. Saliman Road, Carson City. Admission is $7.

CVQG is a not-for-profit entity that promotes the art of quilting and other fiber arts, drawing both from its American heritage and contemporary aspects.

Each year, many members volunteer to make quilts for charitable causes in its members' communities. The guild also provides scholarships each year for art students attending Western Nevada College.
