Mono search and rescue aids in search for Death Valley bicyclist

On Tuesday, the Mono County Sheriff Search & Rescue team responded to Death Valley as a mutual aid resource to assist Inyo County Search & Rescue.

A 68-year-old San Francisco man, on a group cycling trip in Death Valley, left the campfire on on Monday night, presumably to go to his tent. In the morning, it was apparent that he had not slept in the tent and a search was launched. Other responders included the National Park Service, and Search & Rescue teams from China Lake, Kern County, and Tehachapi.

Teams searched washes, gullies, and hills near the Mesquite Springs campground and, late in the day, a team from China Lake located the deceased victim in a gully about a mile east of the campground.
