Gardnerville trailer manufacturer keeping it local

Spend five minutes talking trailers with Chris Dickerson, owner of Sierra 4x4 Trailers and you'll want one. Not because Dickerson's sales pitch - but from the fact that you'll shortly find out that these things ooze quality and are made in the USA.

From the design, production and manufacturing process the trailers at Sierra 4x4 built in Gardnerville are built by off-roaders for off-roaders.

Raised in Douglas County, Dickerson uses local vendors as much as possible when constructing the trailers. A fact that he takes great pride in as it stimulates the local and regional economy and keeps jobs in the county. From order to finish a custom built trailer from Sierra 4x4 on average takes about eight weeks. Sierra 4x4 has received orders from all across the country including New York and Florida. Sierra 4x4 Trailer orders can start with a basic trailer and be customized extensively including: color to match the towing vehicle, tailgate, hard top shell, roof rack, nerfbars, springs with shocks, and even roof top tents with a ladder.

Dickerson depends heavily on internet marketing and advertising including Google ad words, Sierra 4x4 Trailers website, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr sites. Articles in publications such as "Fourwheeler" (October 2011) have also helped Sierra 4x4 attract new customers from the off-roading and weekend warrior community.

Sierra 4x4 is a great example of a company not only working in the outdoor recreation area but also serving as an ambassador for the outdoor lifestyle available in Douglas County. As Dickerson and his family spend as much time as possible in the outdoors, camping and enjoying all this outdoors Mecca has to offer.

"When I talk to out-of-state companies and vendors I tell them about Douglas County," Dickerson said. "I tell a lot of them that they should move their business here."
