Invitations going out for 90-plus birthday celebration

It is time again for Douglas County Senior Services' annual 90-plus Birthday Celebration. About 15 years ago, the senior center decided to honor those who had reached the age of 90 years old. At that time, we had 16 seniors who founded our "90-plus Club." Today, we feel it is just as important to acknowledge and celebrate those who have been inducted into the club.

This year's 90-plus Birthday Celebration is Wednesday at the senior center, 2300 Meadow Lane in Gardnerville. The festivities start at 10:30 a.m. Our extraordinary seniors will be presented with a special certificate and flowers. This year we have invited more than 120 seniors which includes new members who are turning 90 this year, as well as veteran members who were inducted in years past. This is a special day not only for the seniors, but also for the family members who attend the event.

Inside our dining room we have a special wall dedicated to our 90-plus seniors. They each have a heart with their name and date of birth. The 90-plus and 100-plus Clubs grow each year and we are excited to be able to honor these special people and their lives.

If you are not a "regular" at the senior center, but would like to come and join the celebration, call Amanda for an invitation.
