The New USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map available online

Perhaps only avid gardeners will find the idea of an updated U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) climate map spine-tingling. The last map was updated in 1990. The changes are based on average annual extreme minimum temperatures from 1976-2005. They are not based on the lowest temperature that has ever occurred. Researchers have divided the map into 10-degree zones. This is the first time the map is available as an interactive GIS-based map for anyone with a high-speed Internet connection and as static images for those with slower Internet access.
