Where are they now? Cohee kicks off final NCAA campaign with win

Nick Cohee, a 2006 graduate of Douglas High School and 1st Team NCAA All-American ski racer for the University of Utah, is off to a fast start in his final collegiate racing career, winning the NCAA 2012 season opener at Eldora Mountain Resort outside of Boulder, Colorado this past weekend.

Cohee, who will graduate in May with a degree in finance, won the Giant Slalom event, scoring his best point result ever, moving him into the top 25 nationally, ahead of several current members of the United States Ski Team.

He is expected to be in the top seed at the NCAA Championships this March in Bozeman, Mountana, and will battle the top National Team skiers at the U.S. National Championships this April in Winter Park, Colorado.

"The way Nick is skiing right now, both slalom and giant slalom, he can beat anyone in the nation," said Jaka Korencan, Head Coach for the University of Utah Ski Team. "He has come into this season more committed than ever, is in fantastic physical condition, and is ready to win his first NCAA Title in March."

A former junior Silver Medalist and standout racer for the Kirkwood Ski Education Foundation, Cohee is hoping to secure a spot on the national team for the 2012-13 season, challenging a dozen other top athletes who will be looking to land a selection to the 2014 Olympic Team heading to Russia for the Winter Olymics in February of that year.

"I've put more into this season because I know it's key to win against the best competition in order to secure U.S. Ski Team starts heading into 2013," said Cohee. "After I graduate this May I'll be able to focus 100 percent on just racing, and I think my chances are good to compete successfully against the best in the world."
