Truckee paraglider hurt in Mono County

A Truckee paraglider was injured when he collided with steep terrain in the Mono Craters 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Mono County Sheriff's Search and Rescue responded to the location at about 10:30 a.m.

Kern Barta, 45, was paragliding with friends above the west aspect of the craters when he crashed. His friends were able to reach him, and found he'd sustained back and leg injuries in the crash and had briefly lost consciousness.

Mono County Paramedics, Lee Vining Fire Department, a Mono County Sheriff's Deputy, and the Mono County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Team responded to the area. Barta was transported down the side of the crater via a technical low-angle lowering. Care Flight helicopter transported Barta to Renown Medical Center in Reno for further treatment.
