Final weekend of 'On Golden Pond' opens

The second weekend of Carson Valley Community Theatre's presentation of "On Golden Pond" begins Friday in the CVIC Hall.

The Broadway play premiered in 1978, and the movie came out three years later starring Katharine Hepburn, Henry Fonda, Jane Fonda, Dabney Coleman and Doug McKeon.

This is a love story of Norman and Ethel Thayer who are returning to their summer home on Golden Pond for the 48th year. As the Thayers celebrate Norman's 80th birthday, they are visited by their daughter Chelsea, along with her fiance, Bill and his 13-year-old son. Chelsea persuades her parents to keep Billy with them for a month while she and Bill go to Europe. At first wary of each other, Norman and Billy bond through fishing trips and French studies during what may well be the Thayer's last summer on Golden Pond. Norman's relationship with Billy helps him to come better understanding with his daughter, and they make steps toward improving a relationship that has been rocky for most of their lives.

Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m., while Sunday matinee performances are at 2 p.m.
