A T-bone accident at Highway 395 and Airport Road in Minden during the Monday evening commute left one person dead.
The accident occured at about 5:20 p.m. between a blue Chevy Camaro and a red Subaru station wagon in the northbound lanes right at the intersection.
Both vehicles sustained heavy damage.
Only one patient was initially reported at the scene and was taken immediately to the Minden Tahoe Airport to await CareFlight. CareFlight's response was called off, though, after the patient was declared dead shortly thereafter.
Other occupants of the vehicles were reportedly out of their respective vehicles and mobile when rescue personnel arrived.
395 was closed at Muller Lane south of the accident with traffic being diverted to Foothill and Jacks Valley Road. Traffic was backed up with up to a 10-minute standstill as of 5:54 p.m.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.
The accident marks the eighth fatality on Carson Valley roads in 2011 and third in the last six days.
