Road controls are in effect for all the routes over the Sierra and several highways down in the Valley.

Chains or four-wheel drive are required over Interstate 80 and Highway 40. Chains or snow tires are required over Highway 88 from Woodfords almost all the way to Jackson.

In the Valley, Highway 395 is requiring chains or snow tires from Muller Lane to Bridgeport. Kingsbury Grade and Highway 50 at Lake Tahoe both require chains or snow tires, as does Highway 208 between Holbrook Junction and Wellington.

The Nevada Highway Patrol reported a property damage vehicle accident in the northbound lanes of Highway 395 and Jakes Hill at 8:27 a.m.

It has been snowing for the last hour or so in Genoa, sometimes big flakes, sometimes lighter. We've see about a half inch of new snow, so far. It's the warmest it has been all week at 33 degrees. The National Weather Service has a report from four miles east of Verdi that 7 inches of new snow has fallen there.

A winter storm warning is in effect starting at 1 p.m. today and lasting through 10 a.m. Sunday. Up to 10 inches are expected in the valleys by Sunday morning.
