Young Chautauqua begins in January

An informational meeting for the Douglas County Historical Society's Young Chautauqua program is 6-7 p.m. Jan. 12 at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville.

Young Chautauqua is for students in fourth through 12th grade who are interested in history, drama, speech, or just want to have fun. Students choose characters from history to research and perform in the first person.

The program meets every other Tuesday at 6-7 p.m. at the museum for 11 sessions. The young people begin performing in the community in May. To have one or more of the Young Chautauquans perform for your organization, call the Douglas County Historical Society at 782-2555.

The program ends with the Young Chautauqua presentation at Mormon Station State Historic Park in Genoa on June 16 and 17.

Young Chautauqua is funded in part by Nevada Humanities.
